About

The Faculty of Medicine in the Galilee

The objective of the Bar-Ilan University Faculty of Medicine is to train physicians who integrate general fundamental knowledge and understanding of basic medical science and clinical medicine, to provide the students with sufficient background to aid and stimulate their continuous advancement as primary care physicians / specialists and/or medical researchers in the fields of bio-medicine. The students are further encouraged to implement their commitment to the community in general and the population of northern Israel in particular.

Clinical instruction is conducted at hospitals throughout the Galilee:

- The Baruch Padeh Medical Center, Poriya

- The Ziv Medical Center, Safed

- The Western Galilee Hospital in Nahariya

- The Nazareth Hospital EMMS (Scottish hospital)

- The Holy Family Hospital, Nazareth (Italian hospital)

- Mazra Mental Health Center

Medical studies are also conducted in the ambulatory medical centers around the Galilee along with epidemiological and clinical research.

The pre-clinical studies are conducted using a novel, integrative, multi-disciplinary approach by a series of teaching units – "clinical arenas" – in which the different fields are integrated according to the normal biological and pathological processes. The program couples a strong curriculum of basic medical sciences with clinical education.

In accordance with this novel approach, a research institute has been established in the Faculty of Medicine, with Integrative and Disease Oriented research centers for investigators exploring both basic (pre-clinical studies in medical fields) and clinical research, both focused on shared aspects. The guiding principle in the Faculty of Medicine is Translational Research – where basic research is oriented towards clinical, diagnostic and treatment implementations. There is strong collaboration between the academic faculty members from the campus research center and those from hospitals and clinics.

The Faculty of Medicine ascribes great importance to the study of health and disease unique to the Galilee population. The objective is to improve health services for the residents of northern Israel and to meet their needs.

The Bar-Ilan Faculty of Medicine is an integral part of life in the community of the Galilee, involved in science enrichment programs for the young, preventative medicine, promotion of health and wellness, and in environmental issues.
