Definitions

Two types of definitions are available: Members and Groups.

Members
A member is a basic element in steel/aluminum or timber element calculations.
In general, it is a structural element of a defined type, such as beam, column, bracing etc.
In some cases, a member can be defined as a chain of consecutive bars in the structure model.
Groups
Although it is not necessary to define groups when verifying bar sections, groups must be defined for design or optimization procedures.
Groups are useful when identical bars are used, such as for example exterior columns of industrial halls, or main floors beam. In this case, all elements must use the same type of section.
